Example Client Projects

The following are a few examples of the projects in different categories that Eckon has worked on:

● Healthcare products:
UV Solutions, LLC: Richard Eckhardt, the owner and principal engineer of Eckon, is a founder and partner in UV Solutions. He designed and fabricated all the consumer and professional healthcare products featured on the UV Solutions' website.
MDI Instruments: Eckon provided production support engineering for consumer and professional acoustic otitis media (ear infection) detectors. Eckon also designed and built six automated test systems to completely test and calibrate the production units in about 45 seconds. The tester included computer vision, acoustic simulators, mechanical actuators, a barcode reader, and computer data logging. MDI Instruments was later sold to Becton-Dickinson.

● Teaching Aids:
The Trainer's Warehouse: The Trainer's Warehouse is a manufacturer and distributor of teaching and training aid products. Eckon has designed or significantly contributed to the design of more than 20 of their proprietary products. Two patents for the client have resulted from this work with more pending. Eckon has also provided production support for many of Trainer's products, including design and construction of assembly and fabrication fixtures.

● Infant products:
Summer Infant: Eckon regularly performs failure analysis on prototype products and customer returns. Reports include specific recommendations for product or process changes to eliminate failures.
RC2 - The Learning Curve/The first Years: Eckon has assisted in the development of several products, particularly in the area of power reduction to enhance battery life. Eckon also performed failure analysis of prototypes to improve product quality.

● Consumer Products:
Invent Resources: Invent Resources develops technology and products for its clients. Eckon has participated in a number of projects with design assistance and fabrication of concept-demonstrators or prototypes.
Illuminated House Number: The client wanted an aesthetically-pleasing, battery-powered, illuminated house number unit, using stencil numbers, with a battery life greater than 6 months. Eckon took the project after several other consultants said it was not possible. Eckon designed a low-cost product with a 2-3 year battery life and sourced a manufacturer in China. A patent for the client resulted from this work.
UV Solutions, LLC: Richard Eckhardt, the owner and principal engineer of Eckon, is a founder and partner in UV Solutions He designed and fabricated all the consumer healthcare products featured on the UV Solutions' website.

● Commercial Products:
Excel Dryer: Excel produces an extremely fast hand dryer. Eckon has assisted in the development with fabrication of prototype components and testing for improving operation and reducing noise.
Microtouch: Eckon assisted in the development and prototype fabrication of a number of different touch screen products using different technologies. Eckon also made assembly fixtures and other production apparatus for touch screen assembly and testing. Microtouch was sold to 3M.

● Sporting Goods:
Electronic Pitching Trainer: Eckon partnered with Roberts Engineering and J-Biz to develop an electronic pitching trainer that measures pitch speed and accuracy. The display is readable from pitching distance to allow pitching practice without a catcher. A manufacturer for the product has been established and licensing arrangements are in process.
MGA Entertainment/Little Tikes: Eckon, with Roberts Engineering and J-Biz also developed a version of the electronic pitching trainer for younger children which is being sold by MGA Entertainment under the Little Tikes® brand.

● Toys:
Uncle Milton: Eckon partnered with Roberts Engineering and J-Biz to develop an electronic toy that allows humans to hear ultrasonic sound in the environment. It uses a novel, and low-cost, frequency conversion of wide band ultrasonic sound into audio, in real time, without loosing the dynamics of the sound.
Wham-O: A novel outdoor toy has been developed and licensed to Wham-O. It will be available in retail stores soon.
